Last year, IdeaSpace introduced Innovation Mornings, an exclusive talk for the employees and leaders of the First Pacific group.
On April 29, 2020, we held our first Innovation Mornings session for the year, focusing on planetary health and its connection to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Over 40 participants took part in our first Innovation Mornings talk, with representatives from Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, PLDT, Smart, CignalTV, Metropac Movers Inc., Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Davao Doctors Hospital, Cardinal Santos Medical Center, PayMaya, Light Rail Manila Corporation, and Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation.
Our speaker, Renzo Guinto, MD DrPH, is the Chief Planetary Doctor of PH Lab–a “glo-cal think-and-do tank” for generating innovative solutions that advance the health of both people and the planet. Planetary Health is defined as “the international and interdisciplinary field focused on characterizing and addressing the human health impacts of global environmental change” (Planetary Health Alliance, 2019).
Renzo highlighted how the welfare of people would not be possible without the welfare of the planet because of our natural interconnectedness. Planetary health continues to be at risk due to the climate crisis and it now faces another threat in the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized a need for planetary health-oriented businesses that build a culture of health, meaning that businesses orient themselves towards employee health, consumer health, community health, and environmental health.
To do this, there is a need to think about Planetary Health Innovation, with solutions coming from different industries to address the spectrum of needs that need to be addressed to achieve a healthier planet.
